Apologies

I must sincerely apologise for my recent inactivity; this prolonged absence was largely due to my unfortunate experience of testing positive for COVID-19, which lasted for 4 arduous weeks. I am, however, now slowly but surely on the road to recovery, overcoming the challenges that this illness presented. I honestly cannot believe just how significantly COVID affected me this time around. It’s important to note that I am not vaccinated due to pre-existing health complications I manage. My first encounter with COVID occurred during the entire month of April in 2023, where I experienced mild breathing difficulties, and the recovery process took many months. In contrast, the 2024 COVID experience was much worse, leaving me with truly awful symptoms. One particular symptom was especially distressing, where it felt as if my head were being squeezed tightly; the pressure was horrendous, and I could do nothing but lay motionless in bed, grappling with the discomfort. The lingering symptoms I am left to manage are, thankfully, manageable, as long as I take things easy and allow myself the necessary time to heal.

This is one of many important steps back to normality for me; engaging with my hand embroidery once again will certainly be welcomed and greatly appreciated. I effectively use it as a tool for my own personal wellbeing and mental clarity. Recently, I had before covid struck, been diligently working on a new idea that was almost completed, and it will be nice to finally share this piece with others to gather valuable feedback and diverse views.

Here is a sneak peek of my current hand embroidery project, which showcases the intricate details within the design. I am truly excited to share this moment with you as I bring it to life with each carefully crafted stitch.

This intricate art piece that I have thoughtfully designed and skilfully created is entitled "Shizuka," which translates to "quiet" or "calm." The inspiration for this piece is deeply rooted in the serene beauty and tranquility of Japanese zen and moss gardens, reflecting the peaceful essence they embody. There will certainly be more of this hand embroidery project to follow, together with detailed information of what I was inspired by. If you would like to know something specific please feel free to comment below.

Having had time on my hands, I have been reflecting on my arts practice, particularly how it enriches and enhances my own personal wellbeing. My overall aim is to thoughtfully establish myself as an online arts and wellbeing practitioner, one who actively contributes to and enhances the wellbeing of individuals in meaningful and transformative ways. I have discovered that being online is the most efficient and practical way for me to communicate and effectively situate my hand embroidery practice, particularly due to several disability issues that exist beyond my control. This digital approach enables me to connect with a wider audience while adapting to my personal circumstances.

I would like to leave one thought-provoking question with you all, and I encourage you to feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below: From your own unique perspective, what activities or practices genuinely enhance your overall wellbeing? For example, I personally find great joy and peace in engaging with hand embroidery, while others may find relaxation and entertainment in visiting the cinema, exploring a museum, or spending time in a library. I am also genuinely interested to know if any of you have found fulfilling online activities that contribute to your wellbeing, such as gaming or taking and viewing photographs. I am looking forward to reading your insightful responses!
